Lead Software Engineer
University of Puerto Rico, Division of Continuous Education and Professional Studies
Designed and developed a full-stack application in the Django framework, intended to combine three legacy platforms into one,
and make the process of registering / enrolling in courses offered by DECEP 90% faster and clearer for users.
Functions realized:

Managed a team of five engineers.

In constant communication with stakeholders, always ensuring requirements were met.

Documented the project in its entirety for maintainability, and to ensure future developers are able to seamlessly contribute to the application.
Features developed:

An intuitive dashboard for administrators that significantly reduces the manual workload by no longer having to look
for information physically on paper, or across multiple platforms, and instead having everything in a digital platform.

Processing of Excel sheets logic, allowing administrators to simply upload an Excel sheet and have the platform process
and update the necessary information, as opposed to having to fill everything out by hand.

An automated emailing service that notifies users about their enrollment process. Administrators have a set of template emails, where each email is associated
with a specific action in the platform. Once the specific action is executed, the email is sent, removing the need to email people manually ever.

Web-baseed enrollment system
Designed and developed a full-stack web-based (as opposed to terminal-based) enrollment system, with the purpose to showcase how the current system could be improved.
Used Django to build a RESTful API to efficiently render and manage all data coming to and from the React frontend.
Added functionality by:

Making the UX and UI as user-friendly as possible.

Implementing navigation through buttons, as opossed to having to memorize codes to navigate.

Implementing a course schedule visualizer, eliminating the need to use additional platforms to see this information.

Implementing a course searching and bookmarking system. Students can search for and bookmark their most wanted courses. The bookmarked courses are automatically saved, that way students
can access them very quicly and easily when enrolling, as oposed to having to look for them manually.

Implementing filters in course search. Students can filter courses based on their preference when looking at courses to enroll in.

Professor rating site
Created a website to rate the professors of University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras campus, from scratch in PHP. Website was built with the explicit intention of improving on the site that was regularly used by
students to look for professors. This website is now used as the default lookup and rating option by all students in campus (about 10,000).
Added key missing features like:

The ability to look for professors by Department, as opposed to having all professors in a single search.

Ability to search for courses directly. Students can see what professors teach which courses, to ensure they’re rating the correct professor,
as they can share names. This also allows for an easier time when deciding which classes to enroll.

Comment threads, with dates. This way students can look for the most recent reviews, as opposed to having to guess if the comment still holds up or not.
Students can also reply to others’ comments.

Comments that are matched to a course. Students can comment about a professor’s performance on a specific course.
Students can also filter comments by the course they are commenting about.
